A lesser-known track from Cliff’s third album, “Me and My Shadows” which spent 33 weeks in the UK album charts from October 1960 – peaking at #2. The song was written by Ian “Sammy” Samwell, who originally plyed in Cliff’s backing band, but was edged out when Hank Marvin and Jet Harris joined. Nevertheless, Samwell continued to write for Cliff – indeed it was he who wrote Cliff’s first big hit, “Move It”, generally regarded as “the first rock and roll song to be written in the UK”. “Sammy” Samwell went on to write for many other artists including Kenny Lynch, Joe Brown and Dusty Springfield. He is probably best known for writing “A Horse With No Name” for US band America.
