Struggle for Survival: Water Wars and Betrayal in a Future Wasteland | Movie Recap, Movie Explained

Young Ones (2014) – In a near future where water is the most precious resource, the planet has withered into a barren wasteland. Hardened survivors fight for survival in this harsh frontier. Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) protects his farm and family, hoping to rejuvenate the soil amidst constant threats. His daughter Mary (Elle Fanning) and son Jerome (Kodi Smit-McPhee) stand by his side, but Mary’s boyfriend, Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult), has darker ambitions. From writer/director Jake Paltrow, this futuristic western layers Greek tragedy over the values of the American West. Will Ernest save his land or fall to Flem’s treachery?
