Written by Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne in 1988. It was on Roy’s very successful Mystery Girl album and was released just a few months before his untimely death. It was also the title of a compilation album by Roy in 2017 which reached no 2 in the UK album charts.

Geeks Nerds and Anoraks Corner.

I used my Classic Vibe 50s Squier Strat as it is fitted with 10 gauge strings to facilitate bending, and they’re easier on the old fingers! I used the bridge pickup and as I played many double stops I boosted the treble on the Vox ToneLab ST to try and make them cut through. I then reduced the treble on the very top end of the spectrum on the EQ section of my Tascam DP24SD recorder to avoid the highest notes becoming too piercing. On the Tascam I also added my favourite stereo echoes to create an ethereal sound. For once I didn’t use the Hall and Collins echo unit!
I love the sound I achieved, I hope you do too. There are photos of all the settings I used in the video.
